The Art of Non Doing also widely known as Yoga Nidra or Divine Sleep is a systematically, verbally guided deep relaxation practice. This practice is done lying down, reclined or seated. All that is required is that you become comfortable and listen, which is great for the beginning meditator as well as those with experience.
And in this case, practice does not make perfect, but it does offer your nervous system a powerful reset.
Drawing wisdom from the ancient and powerful practice of Yoga Nidra and through studies of modern science, it is proven to be a highly regenerative and restorative experience necessary in modern times and anxious times.
Resting in stillness and often periods of silence the body is able to relax and shift into a parasympathetic state, the mind slows down while a state of pure awareness is fully available. Creating a positive intention at the beginning and repeating throughout the practice may manifest in ourselves and our lives. Spending time in this space offers the opportunity to release chronic heightened stress, reduce anxiety, bring a greater sense of harmony & balance, positively reshaping unconscious habits & dysfunctional habits. Regular practice may also reveal improvements in self-regulation, relationships, relieve pain & physical tension, improve sleep & reduce insomnia.
A Women’s Retreat for Softening, Stillness, and Returning to What Matters
w Mary Polite & Shannon Miller
October 2 | 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Hilton Head Island, SC
Limited to 8 participants
$100 per person
So much of life asks us to strive, achieve, improve, and become.
What if, for one day, the invitation was different?
What if healing came not from adding more, but from gently setting down what has become too heavy, too hurried, or no longer true?
Join a small circle of women for a day of slowing down and softening, a gentle return to the quiet, steady presence beneath the expectations, roles, noise, and stories of everyday life.
Together, we’ll create space for:
Releasing the pressure to hurry
Softening self-judgment
Letting go of the need to have all the answers
Meeting old beliefs and stories with curiosity instead of certainty
Remembering the wisdom that has always lived within you
Through stillness, gentle movement, creativity, time in nature, meaningful conversation, and deep rest, we’ll make room for what has been patiently waiting to be noticed.
The Day’s Journey
Arrival Tea & Opening Circle
Nature Connection & Creative Reflection
Gentle Movement & Meditation
Nourishing Lunch Together
The Art of Non-Doing: Deep Rest & Yoga Nidra
Integration & Carrying the Practice Home
Throughout the day, we gently move through a simple rhythm:
Arrive
Soften
Listen
Release
Rest
Remember
reconnect with the woman who has been there all along.
Step out of the current of constant doing and into the quiet wisdom of being.
Leave with a quieter mind, a softer heart, and a deeper trust in the woman you already are.

THE ART OF NON-DOING IN NATURE RETREAT
Sunday October 18th 9:30 am - 4:00pm
St Helena Island , SC
with Shannon and Ifetayo
What if, for just one day, there was nowhere to rush, nothing to achieve, and no one you needed to be?
This retreat is an invitation to gently set aside the stories you’ve collected about yourself, both the ones you’ve written and the ones you’ve inherited from others, and return to the quieter place beneath them.
**Together, we’ll move slowly through the layers of our experience: body, breath, mind, intuition, creativity, nature, and stillness. Through meaningful conversation, time in the natural world, gentle movement, creative expression, and deep rest, you’ll have space to remember the simple wisdom that has always been within you. Rather than adding something new to yourself, this day is about uncovering what has been there all along.
Throughout our time together we will experience:
*A welcoming tea and gentle gathering
*An opening meditation and sharing circle to arrive fully
*A mindful walk through the beautiful grounds of Penn Center on St. Helena Island, where you’ll be invited to collect a small natural object, with permission from the land, as a personal touchstone for the day
*Creative reflection through writing, drawing, or poetry. No artistic experience is needed
*A nourishing light lunch shared in community, with time for conversation or quiet reflection
*Gentle lymphatic movement to awaken and support the body’s natural rhythms
*The Art of Non Doing, a deeply restorative guided practice experienced lying down or comfortably reclined. During this extended journey we’ll travel inward through the Cherokee Medicine Wheel, inviting healing, balance, and profound rest
*Time to write a personal reflection or a love note to yourself
*A closing circle with sharing and a short meditation to carry the experience home
Come exactly as you are.
Leave with a little more of yourself.

I am a person who deals on a daily basis with much anxiety that then turns to fear.
Because of this, my tendency to keep myself feeling “safe” was to isolate myself. My first hour of The Art of Non Doing (Yoga Nidra) with Shannon quite literally changed my life.
Since then, I have done many Art of Non Doing (Yoga Nidra) classes with Shannon.
I am able to be in public again. I am now leading workshops, teaching fitness classes again and enjoying life to the fullest each day. When I said The Art of Non Doing (Yoga Nidra) with Shannon changed my life- I meant it!
